Hey what’s with the prices?
Very few nurseries tackle 500 varieties for one reason- it is simply NOT cost effective. You’ll rarely see our unusual varieties in your neighborhood because many of them are a challenge to propagate. Even fewer are certified organic growers who have a working knowledge of plants & how to use them. We think that is of great value.
Yes, dramatic increases in natural gas, electricity and gasoline prices have hiked the cost of every input we buy, including freight charges!
Mark often looks with envy at other mailorder places receiving $7.95 (Wayside, Jackson & Perkins,) for a Lavender, “Munstead.” We just can’t do that. We are far too “German” to charge those prices. (Darn, that European vacation sounded so cool.) Like “Progressive Insurance,” we encourage you to check out other fine speciality nurseries and see how we compare. (None are close to 100% organic but they have fine collections):

Ordering
We accept Visa and Mastercard. If you prefer, you can use our shopping cart to put your order together and send us a check by mail. Early orders are recommended! Prices range from $3.99-$15.99 (with tomatoes and peppers at $2.99 each).
Searching
You can search anytime by using the search box at the bottom of each page, or if you just press the search button without any keywords, we'll give you more search options, including a dropdown list of common uses, and an herbs A-Z bar.
The search page also contains links such as popular and new herbs that you can click on directly. We've also add links that will bring up an entire family herbs.
Shipping
We ship from March 1st through June 1st only, according to your approximate frost free date unless directed otherwise.
We ship via USPS (2-3 day priority mail) only. Although you may order any combination of plants (1 basil, 3 oregano, and 2 tomatoes), our shipping method requires that orders be a multiple of 6. For example, 6, 12, 18 etc..
Shipping charges are $9.00 for every six herbs or vegetables ordered, which averages within 50 cents of what the post office charges us. For the States of AK, CA, NV, OR, WA please add $4.00 per box of 6. Books of 1-3 are $4.95.

Substitutions
Because we are a small business with a large selection, a few varieties sell out early. We suggest you order by March for the best selection. If you list substitution suggestions in the comments section on the order form and we need to use any of them to fill your order to get it out in a timely fashion, or to replace a sold out item, we will send along a free herb along with the substitution.

Next to each herb is the USDA zone rating for the herb. You can click on the zone to get a popup window of what temperatures the herb will tolerate.
