An Invitation:
It is always fun to see families. If you live in or are visiting Ohio, perhaps on your way to Cedar Point Amusement Park, just 10 minutes away, stop by. To reward your efforts, you will find substantial savings and plants that we just can not offer in the catalog.

We are located 2 miles east of S.R. 250 and 1 mile west of Rye Beach Rd.

Please, call ahead, so we can give you a personal tour of the gardens and easier-to-understand directions. Buses Welcome.

Display Gardens:
Around our home and greenhouses, we have about one acre of display beds and an additional acre of seed production behind the greenhouse, all certified organic. Visitors are encouraged to wander around to see how mature plants appear.

Greetings from Mulberry Creek,
Greetings from Mulberry Creek,

Thank God, it’s cool to be “green” again. We certainly hope this is a lifestyle change not a trend influenced by world events, only to be abandoned once a giant band-aid has been applied.

Mulberry Creek is embarking on our 14th season, and we chose to be CERTIFIED ORGANIC from the start, March 3, 1995. If you don’t already know, our sons, Ben & Joshua are the #1 reason why, but there are many choices we make for our planet and our community. Recycling, a move away from plastic (most of our herbs are now in biodegradable pots), seeking better sources of fuel, shopping locally, and avoiding LOW PRICES, LOW QUALITY, LOW PAY, are some of the ideals we’re achieving. Perhaps one day, we will chuck these catalogs in favor of electronic versions (which is essentially our website), but there’s plenty of imperfect folks like us, who savor our dog-eared, rained on, botanical bibles that we carry along like an “Audobon” Field Guide.

Eternal gratitude goes to our families & friends journeying with & above us (Melba & Bob Hemminger, Helga & Sepp Langan, our 11 siblings), Chip, Jean-n-Cathy, Shelley, Jean, Polly, Celeste, Maureen, Lisa, Debra, Double-S, Don, Marlene, Barb, Cheryl, Phyllis, Steve, Larry, Rick, Fred all other volunteers, past employees, & souls I forgot for just this moment, who allow us time with our precious, organically grown boys.

This issue is dedicated to Mark’s father who left us unexpectedly about 4 years ago in April. He continues to inspire Mark in every direction and we have to chuckle when we imagine the conversations between his dad and his maker.

And my mom. Melba, who I had the privilege of repaying just
a fraction of her investment in me, by helping to care for her
during her last 2 months. Being a mother of 8 and a wife of
61 years, mom had an automatic pass into paradise, but it
was confirmed in those last couple of days that we were
able to spend with her. Forgive my stumbling choice
of words. It’s so much easier writing about plants.

THE MELBA & BOB PAVILION
Last Spring, my (then 87 year old) dad essentially took over building this pavilion for herbfair workshops. Mark & dad began last fall, but greenhouse duties took over, Spring arrived and we only had stones and a few posts. Dad started up his sawmill, cut the lumber, hammered the trusses together, used his tractor & Mark to set the trusses and built
a good portion of it alone. Good friends, Rick and Fred, helped Mark
roof it and we dedicated it to my mom & dad on June 23rd, 2007.

Peace, Karen & Mark Langan with Joshua 8, Benjamin, 12.

Shipping Season:
March through June 1st. In order to give you the finest plants, shipped during favorable weather, along with avoiding regulatory hassles, we have chosen to narrow our season to the most ideal shipping time, March through June 1st. Our small business focuses all our efforts toward the best service and spends the rest of the year, propagating material for each spring.

Top 10 Reasons Why We Chose Organic:
10. What else would we do with all our free time? Organic means do nothing right? Wrong!

9. “Prevention is worth a pound of cure”
