Costmary, Bible Leaf Botanical Name: Tanacetum balsamita Life Cycle: Hardy Perennial Description/Size: Its 6" long, strap shaped leaves and mint fragrance served as a bible marker and "stimulant" during lengthy sermons. Fine hairs give a light gray look. Spreads by underground branches which bolt in June to form dandelion-like, frankly unattractive, flowers. Remove prior to flowering if you find them undesirable. Use fresh leaves sparingly in salads and soup, also dried leaves in sleep pillows.
