LOCAL CUSTOMER NEWS: YES WE ARE STILL IN BUSINESS: Opening Day March 17th
However this will probably be our last year for doing mail order
- You didn't receive a catalog in the mail last year and now that you have in 2009, you've read the opening letter and you're wondering- "What's happening at Mulberry Creek HerbFarm?" Like all businesses, we are seeking ways to be more efficient without cutting quality. Despite price hikes in all supplies, frightening heating bills and folks having to make priority choices with their hard earned dollars, Mulberry Creek HerbFarm is in business another year (Thank God!) We intend on staying that way until we retire to an "easier" lifestyle. (in other words, another 25 years)
- Consider this scenario when you are pondering if buying plants from a certified organic herbfarm is worth it with "Walmart" just down the street. You and your friends are in a book club and you are deciding on the next text to study. One friend laments that your favorite neighborhood book store is going out of business. Sadly, you continue the discussion and agree on a book. That book is at the aforementioned book store for $6. "Hey I bet we can get that on Amazon.com for a buck or two!" somebody shouts. Grimaces turn to smiles as the order is placed. As luck would have it, with shipping, it ends up to be about $7.00. You've lost a dollar AND your favorite book store. Choices do affect, and sometimes cost, the livelihood of your favorite local businesses. Please choose local. Choose businesses that care. And thank you for choosing us!

$5.00 per adult (includes 1 free herb)
Kids and Classes are FREE
IRELAND is an ancient island, that settled about 8000 B.C. Its title derives from the name of the Celtic goddess `Eriu (in modern Irish `Eire) paired with the addition of the Germanic word "land." "Eireland" is known for Vikings & Normans, its famous famine and long history of agriculture, coastal mountains and low central plains, bitter rebellions and friendly pubs, Jonathan Swift and James Joyce, "The Chieftains" and "The Dubliners," cricket and football, Blarney Castle and St. Patrick's Cathedral and Guinness, ahhhhhhhh Guinness.
GOING GREENER: Not only will we have lively music, dancing and an Irish Pub, but we're fully exploiting the green association of Ireland. It's a celebration of earth friendlier practices from recycling at the fair, to a green roof demonstration and lectures on growing your own green (and red, orange, yellow, blue, indigo and violet) food.
FREE WORKSHOPS both days. These are the topics we're presently kicking around:
Irish Soda Bread, Celtic Traditions & Faery Lore, Growing Your Own Food, Bay Leaf: Herb of the Year Traditional Irish Cooking, The Irish Potato, Growing Herbs.....and of course, St. Fiacre, the patron saint of gardening
LITERARY & STORY TELLING NOOK
FREE ENTERTAINMENT
Tentative plans for a Irish Dance Troop, Music and a
Scottish Games Demonstration
PLANT SALE & GARDEN TOURS
IRISH PUB & GRUB & BAKERY
Our caterer is always up for the challenge as we change the menu every year to match the theme. Count on variations of the potato: Colcannon (with wild garlic), Champ (mashed with scallions) or Boxty (potato pancakes.) Not sure that she'll serve a "Dublin Lawyer" (lobster cooked in whiskey & cream) but you can bet on Irish Stew, perhaps Coddle (boiled pork sausages) and a wee bit o' salmon or cod. Of course we'll have Irish Soda Bread and other baked goodies. See page 38 for recipes.
CHRISTMAS SHOPPING DONE EARLY
Vendors of our fair are required to focus on herbs, gardening, cooking or Ireland for the majority of their product line. We strongly discourage cheap, imported products and crafts represented at all the other fairs. Because of the unique, hand made items, this is where I shop for Christmas!
