2008 Mulberry Creek Herbfair featuring “Herbs Under the Tuscan Sun” Saturday, June 21st 10 am to 5 pm Sunday, June 22nd noon to 5 pm $5.00 per adult (includes 1 free herb) Kids and Classes are FREE TUSCANY is a region roughly 90 miles across and 100 miles long. If Italy is a long legged boot, Tuscany would be the knee on the west side of the country. Historians believe the “Etruscan Civilization” (possibly from Oriental or Mideastern descent), settled this area, and much of Southern Europe around the 7th century B.C. Romans took over contributing the famous Italian city center square or “La Piazza.” The Arts, literature, canvas and sculpture enhanced Tuscans lives and riches from their marble, iron ore and glass industries, adorned their cathedrals, Gothic Churches and country villas. THE BEAUTY OF TUSCANY’S LANDSCAPE & CUISINE flows from the region’s abundance of minerals, sunshine, grapes, olives, seafood and livestock. From red-gold buildings in Siena, built of the earth and still standing 800 years, to yesterday’s bread that is today’s soup thickener, an attitude of using what’s on hand extends throughout every aspect of their lives and history. The meal is not just nourishment but trully a feast for the soul and this is why we celebrate Tuscany. RECIPES FROM AN HERBAL TUSCAN MEAL can be found on pages 36 - 38 FREE WORKSHOPS both days. These are the topics we’re presently kicking around: Pasta Making, Faeries & the Summer Solstice, Limoncello & Other Herbal Liqueurs, Truffles & more Mushrooms, Calendula- 2008 Herb of the Year, The Spice Trail and Expresso.
