2010 HerbFair

2009 was a banner year. So many folks planted their first vegetable garden. I pray everyone was successful enough to try again no matter where you get your plants.
It was about 1970 when I planted my first pea seeds, dropped potatoes in a trench and hoed sweet corn, being careful not to strike the stalk and possibly cause "corn smut", that scary delicacy for folks outside the US.
My dad ("Pop") and I will embark on our 40th year of gardening together. If a 90 year old can do it, and with vigor, you can too.

WHAT'S NEW IN 2010
-Asian greens
-More heirloom vegetable plants and seeds
-More miniature perennials, herbs and citrus plants
-Japanese gardens
-A new train (just ask Steve or Mark to run it) in our miniature railroad garden
-An invitation to pack a lunch and eat outdoors in our pavilion
-An invitation to bring bread and feed "Romeo & Juliet" our beautiful adult peacocks. Families are always welcome. That's nothing new!

JAPAN is referred to as the "Land of the Rising Sun" but it is also an archipelago of 6,852 islands. Most islands are mountainous, many volcanic, including the famous Mt. Fuji. It is impossible to condense over 32,000 years of known history into a library let alone a fair, but here's what you can expect to see:

SANDUSKY BONSAI CLUB will be our special guests offering live specimens in the gardens and classes and conversations throughout the weekend for the curious gardener. Be inspired by the simplicity and grace of this ancient art and help keep it alive in the 21st century. Seasoned and beginning gardeners are here to help.

    ICE CREAM FLAVORS
Mt. Fuji Fudge (Chocolate ice cream infused with ginger and chunks of fudge brownies)
    and
Cherry Blossom Cheesecake (infused with lavender and bits of crust & cheesecake)

    CHRISTMAS SHOPPING DONE EARLY
Vendors of our fair are required to focus on herbs, gardening, cooking or Japan for the majority of their product line. We strongly discourage cheap, imported products and crafts represented at all the other fairs. Because of the unique, hand made items, this is where I shop for Christmas!
