Soil: Loamy-Sandy Well Drained
Common Uses:Culinary, , Medicinal, , Topiary
""Thanks for the Memories""Madeleine Hill did not introduce this hardy variety (she introduced 'Arp'), rather it was named in her honor, by Tom DeBaggio. Long ago we were impressed with it's healthy and hardy growth habit. Not hardy in our open fields, but then all hardy rosemaries have a difficult time overwintering here. Plant against a south wall and protect from brisk winds with something transparent (not mulch!). A well drained, gravelly soil is also critical to prevent spring root rots.

This rosemary always looks healthy! Is it it's broad leaves like 'Gorizia' but shinier and a bit smaller? Or is it the tall columnar form, reminiscent of an ""Irish Yew?"" It grows better than 7 feet in Zones 7-10. Best of all, I like it's fresh, Christmas scent.

Lemon ScentedCould this be the most variegated plant in the world? Perhaps. French lace is an upright sport of 'Prince Rupert' that shines as a tree in a mixed container or stands alone as a small specimen topiary.

Lemon ScentedSmallest lemon scented pelargonium with golden edges outlining each microscopic leaf. Besides the obvious miniature landscapes and faerie gardens, I use them as decorative sprigs for impromptu corsages, quaint tussie-mussies or elegant bouquets tied to wineglasses. One of Mark's ""pets"".

Rose ScentedDoes it smell like a peacock? No! It’s mildly rose. I guess it’s the willy nilly, cream colored specks sprinkled all about & pink flowers showing up randomly throughout the season at their own whim, that inspired the name.

Very rare Caribbean Pea family tree that makes and easy bonsai or mini tropical tree that looks like a graceful ""Honey Locust"". You know, that lawn tree that's in everyone yard with that light, airy look, usually golden. The Senna leaf is however dark green to a purplish, only 1 inch long with 7-10 pairs of eraser head size leaftets. Very delicate, oh ya did a mention the bright yellow 1 inch summer flowers?

Common Uses:Bonsai, Garden Railroads, Hedges/Shrubs, Houseplants, Miniature/Faery Garden, Ornamental, Topiary

This all green tropical shrub looks like a mini magnolia tree, but blooms most of the year! Grows best when temperatures are above 60 degrees (although a light frost is O.K.) Very appropriate for bonsai. Because of my divided attention between my sons and our business and the careful neglect I give my test subjects, I have gained yet another ""hat"", this one as unofficial tester of houseplants. I declare this plant the 2004/2005 winter winner of the ragaves of our warm, dry, poorly lit (compared to outdoors) home and oops! occasional watering!

Soil: Organic-Loamy
Flowers: Early Winter to Late Winter to Middle Winter
Common Uses:Bonsai, Garden Railroads, Hedges/Shrubs, Houseplants, Miniature/Faery Garden, Ornamental, Topiary
A striking, variegated leaved miniature pink magnolia tree! Doesn't bloom as freely as ""Cherry Blossom"" but I have to admit, it does not need flowers to charm visitors. Like ""Cherry Blossom"", it prefers temperatures above 60 degrees (although a light freeze is okay) and does not like to dry out. Still, it is a great bonsai and miniature landscape tree.

Flowers: Early Winter to Late Winter to Middle Winter
Common Uses:Bonsai, Garden Railroads, Hedges/Shrubs, Houseplants, Miniature/Faery Garden, Ornamental, Topiary

As Serissa go, this is the tiniest leaved variety, although it grows rather quickly. 'Tiny Kyoto' is precisely proportioned as a tree for the smallest scale railroad, or as a shrub in large scale. Yes, it's suited for Zone 9-10 growers but it does just fine indoors, over winter. Occasionally, we're treated to its rare white-pink flowers.

Skeleton Plant

Corokia cotoneaster

Water: Dry-Normal
Soil: Sandy-Well Drained
Common Uses:Bonsai, Garden Railroads, Hedges/Shrubs, Houseplants, Miniature/Faery Garden, Ornamental, Topiary

Yes it is Alive! From Australia, this is a desert survivor. Looks dead because in full sun, the leaves turn nearly black and are the size of the zig zagging black branches. This is how it has adapted to the blazing summer heat. In a more shady location or in winter the leaves become greener and wider. Although it can grow to 4' X4' it is easy to bonsia or keep pruned in the garden to a small tree in railroad gardens. Oh, almost forgot, tiny yellow flowers appear in winter.

This is one of the world's smallest willows. Tiniest of catkins appear with the crocus flowers, followed by the flat growing stems letting out their 1/2"" willow leaves. Perfect railroad addition in the ""mountains"" or as a sacred tree in the fairie garden. Train upright for a miniature ""Weeping Willow"" by the pond.
